04/11/09 – Ron Scheepstra, age 49, a resident of Lufkin, TX, was last seen on Saturday, April 11, 2009 during a fly-fishing trip with friends in Xcalak, Mexico. Ron had been on trips to the area before and is an avid fly-fisherman. Ron left to fish in a different area. A few hours later, his friends went to the area where their cars were parked and realized that Ron’s car was still there. Ron was nowhere to be found. Local authorities have been searching for Ron since he disappeared. Ron is a dual citizen of the United States and the Netherlands.

Aug 18th I received an email from the Dutch Embassy informing me that the Mexican PGR (federal level police)
are in the beginning stages of their investigation. We have been waiting 3 months to hear if this would be conducted or not. I hope that this can give us some answers.

On May 22nd the US and Dutch governments submitted a request for a federal level investigation. I was told by the US Consulate that it would take months to get a yes or no answer. The US Consulate also recently requested a welfare/whereabouts check in Belize. They have been asked to post the Missing person flyers in prominent locations and contact police, hospitals ect. My husband was a victim of foul play. Not knowing what happened to him is agonizing. I do have some theories that I have shared with the FBI and the Consulate. Hopefully they can be investigated, if we are ever granted a legitimate investigation instead of the farse that was conducted.
Please continue to keep our family and Ronald in your prayers. Please do NOT go to Mexico. You are not safe anywhere there, and you can not trust anyone. I know this from personal experience.

The US Consulate met with the governor of Quintana Roo recently and he ordered the search reinstated. I heard from my contact last Tues 5/26 that they had been searching with dogs this time, but had no new leads. Also, the US and Dutch Embassy have requested a higher level investigation from the Mexican government. We are now waiting for their answer.
Please keep our family and Ronald in your prayers.

I was in Xcalak this past weekend and knew about Ron. I am very sorry about this. I went to Xcalak twice a year and it never happened before. My deep condolences to the family. I will pray for you.

Having been involved in the search for Mr. Sheepstra firsthand I can say that the response of Mexican authorities was impressive. The lack of found evidence is a conundrum at best. My condolences to the family.

Members of his family traveled to Mexico recently, returning this week to Lufkin with no news.

Ronald was on a fly fishing trip in an area that he had been to several times before. It is as if he vanished into thin area. His wife, sister, and step-daughter just got back from a horrible experience in Mexico with no answers. Please contact anyone you can think of to help put pressure on the Mexican government to continue the search. As of tomorrow, he will have been missing two weeks. They were ready to call the search off after 1-1 1/2 weeks. Please help us find our friend.
